The only other one I've used is unofficial cardboard, and this is about 5x better. I've got a galaxy S5, and I play PC games on it with freetrack mouse emu for head movement, and limelight for game streaming via the router. Overall it's really good and I'm happy with it. I’m happy to answer any questions anyone has. After my experience using it with my phone, I now intend to but a second one solely for use with my phone as well. I have just placed an order for a 7” 1280x800 LCD screen which I intend to mount permanently in the ColorCross for use as a display for my PC as the start of a sort of “Hackulus Rift” project which is what I purchased the ColorCross for. VR aside, it was great just to watch movies on and is at least as good as any personal cinema viewer I’ve ever tried. Worth noting however is that the ColorCross did include an over-the-head strap which was absent on the Dive.Īll in all, I’m really pleased with this purchase and, for only $40, it’s a bit of a no-brainer if you have a use for it. The head strap isn’t quite as nice as the one that came with the Dive but that’s a small gripe. Wearing the device became pretty uncomfortable after about an hour and I may end up cannibalizing the pad from the Dive. ![]() The Dive came with a pretty comfy pad to support the device against your face but the ColorCross has only a very thin rubber “gasket” (for lack of a better word). The quality of the lenses seems pretty decent although I only have the Dive to compare them to.Ĭomfort is a bit of an issue. The mechanism to adjust the IPD is a bit loose on mine but I should be able to fix that with a bit of Bluetack. I’m not sure what the minimum is but I know I have an IPD of 63mm and I have to adjust them about 3mm short of their maximum throw. IPD can be adjusted on the device as well. The lenses are fully adjustable and I was able to set them up to overcome my nearsightedness without having to wear glasses or contacts. I can’t imagine that a 7” phone/tablet with any sort of bezel at all would fit in here. While the description of the device on the dx.com website claims that it will hold phones up to 7”, I think my phone is about the biggest device you’d want to put in it. I would have preferred some sort of spring loaded mechanism. My phone is held in place surprisingly securely but I’m not sure how long the “ratcheting” mechanism which clamps down on the phone will hold up to repeated adjusting. Another issue is that the phone’s screen is completely enclosed within the HMD leaving you with no access to the touch screen (I used a keyboard and mouse sharing application called ShareKMS to get around this). My phone fits perfectly into the device, although the power and volume controls are completely obstructed. The lenses are much bigger too and, while I think the FOV is about the same, any distortion around the periphery is greatly reduced over the Dive. My first impression of the ColorCross HMD was that it was much sturdier than I had anticipated. A fact which I was aware of before purchasing but I was able to make some minor modifications to get it to work. One of the issues was that it was too small for my phone. I purchased the Durovis Dive a couple of weeks back and, while it was a neat first foray into the world of HMD’s, I wanted something better. In both devices, I am using my Samsung Galaxy Note 2. My first HMD was a Durovis Dive which is the only other HMD I've had experience with. I'm relatively new to HMD's so please forgive any terminology I may get wrong. I haven't seen any reviews of these online so I thought I'd share my experience with mine which arrived only yesterday. ack-336607) which, as near as I can tell, are identical to the "NEJE LG-01 Universal Google Virtual Reality 3D Glasses for 4~7" Smartphones" which can also be found on dx.com (. The spellings check, checque, and cheque were used interchangeably from the 17th century until the 20th century. The newer spelling, cheque, is believed to have come into use around 1828, when the switch was made by James William Gilbart in his Practical Treatise on Banking. Paper money evolved from promissory notes, another form of negotiable instrument similar to cheques in that they were originally a written order to pay the given amount to whoever had it in their possession (the " bearer").Ĭheck is the original spelling. In some countries, such as the US, the payee may endorse the cheque, allowing them to specify a third party to whom it should be paid.Ĭheques are a type of bill of exchange that were developed as a way to make payments without the need to carry large amounts of money. ![]() Cheques are order instruments, and are not in general payable simply to the bearer as bearer instruments are, but must be paid to the payee. Both the drawer and payee may be natural persons or legal entities. In an increasing number of countries cheques have either become a marginal payment system or have been completely phased out.Ī cheque is a negotiable instrument instructing a financial institution to pay a specific amount of a specific currency from a specified transactional account held in the drawer's name with that institution. Since then cheque usage has fallen, being partly replaced by electronic payment systems, such as debit cards and credit cards. By the second half of the 20th century, as cheque processing became automated, billions of cheques were issued annually these volumes peaked in or around the early 1990s. The drawer writes various details including the monetary amount, date, and a payee on the cheque, and signs it, ordering their bank, known as the drawee, to pay the amount of money stated to the payee.Īlthough forms of cheques have been in use since ancient times and at least since the 9th century, they became a highly popular non- cash method for making payments during the 20th century and usage of cheques peaked. The person writing the cheque, known as the drawer, has a transaction banking account (often called a current, cheque, chequing, checking, or share draft account) where the money is held. A cheque, or check ( American English see spelling differences), is a document that orders a bank (or credit union) to pay a specific amount of money from a person's account to the person in whose name the cheque has been issued. ![]() “These events are a consequence of our failure to put in place prevention measures.” “I think the United States has a relationship with guns unlike any other country in the world,” said Kelly Drane, research director for the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence. Advocates say there are measures that could perhaps avert such crimes - firearms reform and weapons bans among them - but note there is little appetite on Capitol Hill to implement them. It will take years - if it’s even possible - for researchers to pinpoint what’s behind the drastic increase in gun violence. “When I was asked to work on this in 2013, I didn’t ever imagine 10 years later I’d still be working on the same thing.” “We have plenty of examples of things that seem to be at the breaking point in this country,” said Katherine Schweit, a former FBI executive who created the agency’s active shooter protocol after Sandy Hook. People who study such violence are also perplexed by the sustained pace of the brutality. Which leads back to the same haunting question: Why? The fact is, though they are less common than other gun deaths, the mass killings keep happening - 20 years after Columbine, 10 years after Sandy Hook, five years after Las Vegas, and less than one year after massacres at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, and an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. “People around the country all send their kids to schools - and they worry about if they send their kid to school, are they going to get shot?” said Daniel Webster, a professor at the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions. Still, mass killings spark the deepest fear in most people’s hearts. And then there are the suicides, which make up more than half of the 14,000 gun deaths so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which monitors news media and police reports to compile data. Yet while these tragic events garner an outsize amount of attention in the news media and the public’s mind, they represent only a tiny fraction of overall gun deaths.įar more frequent are fatal shootings involving fewer than four people and deaths from domestic violence. Such explanations are little comfort not only to the families ripped apart by the killings but to Americans everywhere who are reeling from the cascading, collective trauma of mass violence.Ĭontributing to 2023′s steady drumbeat of death: the grisly murder-suicide in Utah that left five children, their parents and their grandmother dead just days into the new year the fatal shooting of six people, including three 9-year-old children, at an elementary school in Nashville back-to-back rampages in California at dance studios and mushroom farms and the mall shooting in Allen, Texas, on Saturday, when authorities say a gunman stepped out of a car and immediately started firing at people. Mass shootings account for the vast majority of mass killings, though there are examples where the perpetrator used knives or other weapons as well.Įxperts point to a few contributing factors: a general increase in all types of gun violence in recent years the proliferation of firearms amid lax gun laws the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, including the stress of long months in quarantine a political climate unable or unwilling to change the status quo in meaningful ways and an increased emphasis on violence in U.S. The atrocities have been driven almost exclusively by gun violence, since all 22 of the incidents in 2023 involved firearms in some way. The Flash Charger even worked on a Crank Brothers' wheel and Schwalbe tire combo that had me throwing tools at the wall until I gave it a go with the new Bontrager pump. Air will stop moving into the tire once the pressure equalizes at the pump, after which you can either keep pumping or use the bleed button to lower the pressure to where you need it. It all happens very quickly, with the air moving fast enough to at least seal up every rim and tire combination that I tried, with none of them giving me any grief. Then, after you've made sure the pump's head is locked onto the valve stem, simply pull up on the red handle to release the stored pressure into the tire. It took my 45 pumps to get the pressure up to the maximum of 160 psi, and while the push does get a bit stiff near the end, it's not something that anyone would struggle with. ![]() It works like so: push the red lever down in order to isolate the larger, secondary air chamber that you're going to use to seat the tire. If you haven't guessed by now, I found that Bontrager's clever floor pump performs extremely well at installing troublesome and loose fitting tubeless tires. And using a CO2 cartridge every time you want to install a tire seems just a touch wasteful, doesn't it? The TLR Flash Charger pump is easy to throw in the back of your car or truck if you're worried about needing to repair or replace a tire during a multi-day trip, and it's much less of a hassle than using a compressor, even considering that you can find some pretty inexpensive compressors if you look around. I don't know about you, but I don't always have access to a compressor, not to mention that they're loud and require a power source to get the job done. possibly cost me £10 to do, and made a few for friends too.I know what you're thinking: why not just use a compressor to install your tubeless tires? Or even a CO2 cartridge given that it should only take one to get the job done. Fire extinguishers are scrapped after so many year so easy to get them and the correct fittings screw straight in. can hit up 4 tires on tubeless conversions in no time with 150 psi in the bottle. Construction is sturdy, finish is top notch, and the metal hardware and components feel like they should hold up for a number of years.
